Growing up, I always heard stories about Mwanza, Tanzania, where my grandmother was raised. It is a place that holds a special meaning for our family. Today, many primary and secondary schools in Mwanza face a simple but significant challenge: a lack of proper desks and chairs. Too many students are forced to sit on the floor or use damaged furniture, making learning uncomfortable and difficult.

The Desk and Chair Foundation (TDCF) is working to address this by repairing and restoring school desks and chairs, helping to create a better learning environment for thousands of children. Every desk repaired gives students a more comfortable, dignified, and productive place to learn.

This year, I am taking part in the Vitality 10km Run on 27 September and aiming to raise £2,500 for this incredible cause.

This challenge is particularly meaningful because I am completing it in memory of my uncle, Taki Meghjee, who was a true legend within our family. Taki Chacha was a passionate runner who continued to take part in the famous Bolder Boulder 10km race well into his late 80s. He was also a strong advocate for education and firmly believed in giving young people the opportunities they need to succeed. Supporting this cause through a running challenge feels like a fitting way to honour both his love of running and his commitment to education.
