2026 Philippines Earthquake Relief 菲律賓強震救援行動|陪伴受災家庭度過最艱難的時刻

oleh The Mustard Seed Mission 基督教芥菜種會

▍What Happened
On June 8, 2026, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines, triggering tsunamis along coastal areas and causing widespread destruction. To date, the disaster has claimed over 40 lives, injured nearly 500 people, affected more than 140,000 individuals, and displaced over 40,000 families — many of whom now face an uncertain future amid continuing aftershocks.

For children, the impact goes beyond collapsed buildings and disrupted routines. When the world they know suddenly crumbles, what they need most is someone to stay beside them, listen, and help them feel safe again.

▍Our Response
The Mustard Seed Mission (MSM) activated its emergency response within 24 hours of the earthquake, connecting with trusted local partners — including PHILRADS, CAMP, SEND International, and local church networks — to begin needs assessment and coordinate relief operations. Our response prioritizes affected families and child welfare services, channeling support through community-rooted systems that can reach the most vulnerable.

Our relief plan spans three phases:

Phase 1 — Emergency Relief (June)
· Distribution of emergency supplies: food, drinking water, hygiene products, and household essentials
· Emergency financial assistance for affected families
· Temporary shelter coordination through church and community networks
· Psychosocial support: training 20 local volunteers to accompany 500 affected children, helping them process fear and rebuild a sense of safety
· Ongoing care for 300 households with bi-weekly supply distributions

Phase 2 — Transitional Support (July)
· Shelter life support for 150 households over three months
· Construction and planning of medium-term transitional housing for 150 families
· Continued supply of nutritional food, infant formula, hygiene kits, and bedding
· Coordination of sea freight for bulk relief materials

Phase 3 — Recovery and Rebuilding
· Home repair and restoration for 55 households
· Cash-for-work program: engaging 40 local residents in community reconstruction while providing income support
· Education kits for 300 affected children (stationery, school bags, books)
· MSM field team visit to the Philippines to assess recovery progress and support local partners

▍How Your Gift Helps
Every contribution directly funds verified relief and recovery activities carried out by MSM and its trusted local partners in Mindanao. Funds are allocated across emergency relief, transitional support, and long-term recovery — ensuring that families receive not just immediate aid, but the sustained accompaniment they need to rebuild their lives.

Total program budget: NT$10,637,000 (approximately USD $325,000)
